New York MIMS

RACE REPORT: https://swimmersrock.com/2013/06/16/new-york-mims-2013/

On Saturday 8th June 2013, I, along with 40 other swimmers (and 2 super Irish swimming friends, Lisa and Liam!) will be hoping to complete the New York MIMS event.

MIMS= Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. (28.5miles/45km)

The race starts and finishes at South Cove in Battery Park City on the Hudson River. Swimmers begin at South Cove, navigate around the Battery then head north up the East River, counter-clockwise around Manhattan Island. They swim north into the Harlem River, through Spuyten Duyvil, and then south down the Hudson River to the Battery. There are 4 check points: Hell’s Gate where the East River meets the Harlem River, Spuyten Duyvil where the Harlem River meets the Hudson River, the 79th Street Boat Basin in the Hudson River, and the World Financial Center.

I have decided to fundraise for this event, with 50% of the funds staying in NY and going to local charities and the other 50% goes to Down Syndrome Ireland. I’m happy that both Countries can get something from this.

If you want to read any further details of the swim, here is the full link to the event: http://www.nycswim.org/Event/Event.aspx?event_id=2302&from=course

My Dad will be my official Crew member for the day (again!), so from his assigned boat he will keep track of my drinks etc. Mum will be in support on land!, and I even have some ‘local’ friends who may make an appearance! I’m excited for this event, I really do LOVE NY, and this will certainly be a new way of seeing it (well, Dad will have a better view from the boat, my head will be down most of the time!). I will have a tracker so you can follow my progress around Manhattan, I will post that link closer to the time.

You can be motivated by fear and reward, but these are temporary. The only lasting thing is self-motivation.
